So, yes, it has been a while………………and I have yet to share the origin of PPR. But I’ll get to that……….
Joy and Alex visited me this past weekend from Corning, NY and Oakland, CA, respectively. When we planned this weekend back in January it seemed impossibly far away. Now it just seems impossible that it has already passed. We had a great weekend with just the right amount of exploring, indulging, and relaxing. Of course, we visited Six Feet Under and a new favorite, Sun in My Belly which is gloriously close to our house. Have I mentioned that I love it here? We enjoyed the fountains at Centennial Olympic Park, admired the view from the Sundial Lounge, cooked dinner at home, and gabbed late into the night about life in our respective corners of the country. We drank a lot of cheap wine and a little bit of great wine – (thanks Al!). We took pictures, played with kitties, laughed at Peyton Manning SNL skits, and appreciated the ease with which true friends can reunite after years of separation. It’s a wonderful thing!
Yesterday, Alex and I explored the Martin Luther King Memorial. It was a sobering, powerful, sad, and inspiring tribute. We left feeling stunned and ashamed of our country’s not so distant past and in awe of one man’s accomplishments. I highly recommend a visit here.
OK, so you all have been very patient. The story of Penelope Plop Right starts here and won’t take but a minute. After deciding to relocate my fledgling blog to WordPress, a new name seemed appropriate. It had to be unique. It had to be goofy. It had to have meaning. It needed to be catchy and maybe even giggle-inducing. After much thought and many rejected ideas, a blast from my very distant past hopped into my head.
When I was still a wee one, my Dad used to call me Penelope Plop Right. This would frustrate me because that wasn’t my name! You know how 4 year olds think, right? So I would ask in whiny exasperation, “Daaaaaaaaaaaaad, why do you call me that?!” And his answer was always “Because Penelope Plop Left just sounds funny.” It may have taken a while, but I now appreciate this. To those who know me and my Dad it all makes perfect sense. To those who don’t, let’s just say that these are the kind of things that make a Sepull laugh.
BTW, for those who missed it the first time around, NBC is re-running the aforementioned Peyton Manning episode this Saturday. True SNL fans will not be disappointed. There are multiple Laugh Out Loud skits, most of which can also be found on You Tube. I leave you with another link that is particularly appropriate. Good night!
