Penelope Plop Right

A little insight into my (strange) dreams July 27, 2007

Last night I dreamt that Eddie Murphy was my boyfriend.  Just to set the record straight:  We all know that I love Beverly Hills Cop, but I have never lusted Eddie.  In real life anway.

id-photos.jpgid-photos.jpgWhen people think of me I am pretty sure that “photogenic” is not a word that comes to mind.  Not by a long shot.  So let me just tell you how happy I am that the picture on my new work ID is not completely horrendous.  I can probably attribute the decent picture to the fact that I didn’t have to wait in line or deal with a surly badge officer to get the job done.  Actually, this guy was downright pleasant.  (But I won’t tell anyone at work because I would not want him to get fired for insubordination.)  Two funny excerpts from our interaction:

Me: Hi, I am here to get my badge renewed.

Him: Well I’m here to help you get your badge renewed.

Him: Do you want a new picture?

Me:  Do I need a new picture?

Him:  Well, I have a new camera.

Alright – maybe you had to be there.  I may scan my passport photo and my new work ID so you can appreciate the dramatic difference.

OK – new topic.  If you have access to HBO you need to be watching Flight of the Conchords.  Laugh out loud funny stuff.  Unless off-beat comedy is not your thing.

Lake Claire Pool July 23, 2007

Today was opening day at Lake Claire Pool which we joined along with a few of our friends.  We didn’t stay too long as it wasn’t exactly “hot” today but I think we will have a lot of fun there this summer and for years to come.  Next summer, Babies Moore and Eisenhard will dig the kiddie pool with the mushroom fountain.  We will dig the fact that nobody seems to care if you bring your own beer.

The 5th Earl and Stacy’s Chips July 22, 2007

After a glowing recommendation from our friend Skip, we tried the 5th Earl today for lunch.  The decor was very welcoming, the service friendly, the restaurant clean, and the food was tasty.  We will definitely be back.  It was here that I discovered Stacy’s Pita Chips for the first time.  I had the the Naked ones that are simply salted and they were so yummy.  A little like those addictive crunchy noodles you get with your soup at Chinese restaurants but with a lot less guilt.  Apparently a lot of places carry them (CVS, Walmart, Publix, BJs, Sam’s etc.).  If you want to find them near you check out the store locator on their website.

Wags of Baxter July 17, 2007

My sister in law, Cindy, had her grand opening of her new store today.  It is a dog boutique and bakery named Wags of Baxter located in Baxter Village, just south of Charlotte, NC.  She carries gifts, treats, food, and accessories for dogs as well as a few kitty products.  This has been a long time coming and we are very excited to watch her succeed.  And succeed she will!  I chatted with her briefly and she said that she had a lot of traffic today and sales exceeded her expectations.  You go Cindy!

I love Cindy’s website – her sense of humor is apparent on every page.  My favorite line is one of the rules for the current contest:

4. Winning entries must be “clean” even though we are talking about dirty business. Phrases with obscene or vulgar language will not be selected, although they may produce a few laughs among the judges.

If you live in the Charlotte area, be sure to visit Cindy and Denver at the store.  Tell Cindy you were referred by Nickel and Chops.

“Welcome to the South” July 13, 2007

That is what locals say when you tell them you had a roach sighting.  Well – I had my first official “In MY House” roach sighting yesterday.  When we were in our conveniently located, but skanky, apartment in the Highlands last summer we had a couple rodent-sized roaches pay us a visit.  But I was hoping that our new house would be the bug-proof equivalent of Fort Knox.  Not so.

Last night when I opened the wine fridge, out scurried the first official roach invader inside 228 2nd ave.  And it was promptly sent to meet its maker by my flip-flop.  Eeeeew.  (Shiver)  Glass of white anyone?
