Today’s Your Birthday! November 30, 2007

It’s my birthday too yeah!  (Sung to the Beatles Classic of course.)

34 years old.  Funny how your perception of “old” changes relative to your own age.  Growing up, I envisioned myself being married in my early 20s, done with pregnancy by late 20s, and one of those cool younger parents.  Well it wasn’t to be so and I am glad.  Hell, I didn’t even meet Randy until I was 27.    What would life be like if I had held fast to my naive timetable?  Let’s just say I am SO glad I was/am not that rigid!

So – for those of you out there looking forward to your Friday happy hour – please have an extra drink for me and make a toast to being happy to be where you are right now.  Even if your current arrangements don’t coincide with the grand plan you had for yourself at the all-knowing age of 12!

Yup – that is me.  I would have failed miserably if I had been a registered Nablopomo-er.

So – I have been utterly remiss in sharing with you all the beauty that was Sting when we saw the Police on Nov 17th at Philips Arena.  I think that Rodney Ho of the AJC had it exactly right when he said:

“the still lithe 56 year old wore a tight white cut-off T-shirt (that probably cost $100) better than most 26 year olds.”

I had never seen him in concert before and it was well worth every penny we paid to be there.  I was entranced by him (and his very sculpted arms) through out the show.  Oh – and they played Invisible Sun too which was an added bonus.  I took a picture with my cell but have not yet got it off my phone onto the computer.  Which leads me to my next topic……..

Why can’t my Verizon Bluetooth phone communicate with my Dell Bluetooth capable laptop?  About a month ago I successfully transferred images from my phone directly to our computer without paying 25 center per picture.  Then just last week, when trying to get my beloved Sting off of my phone onto my computer, I about tossed both laptop and cell phone through the window after spending an hour attempting the same feat without success.  My techno-savvy BIL Matt tells me that Verizon intentionally blocks the direct transfer capability to force you to send / pay for picture messages.  (And that it was probably a fluke that I successfully transferred those pictures earlier in the month.)  Call me cheap but I find it highly irritating that I should have to pay to get my own pictures off of my own phone onto my own computer.  That was the main reason we opted for the bluetooth option on the new laptop.  And now I can’t use it with my own phone?  Is anyone out there familiar with this issue?  Do you know of a work around?

On the pregnancy front, everything is good or at least to be expected.  I am developing cankles (Sexy!) and growing out of clothes rapidly.  I will probably be wearing flip flops and mu-mus by Christmas.  The due date is 6 weeks from tomorrow (!) and the doctor says everything is looking great.  I have met all four obstetricians at Piedmont OB-GYN and they all have a very calming, professional way about them.  No matter who is on call when the Biscuit decides he is ready to join us, I know I will be in good hands.  I feel very lucky in that respect.

 I leave you with a funny bit………

What Randy said: “Are you tired of lugging that thing around?”

What I heard Randy say: “Are you tired of looking so round?”

Beginner’s Luck November 6, 2007

After many years of watching Randy obsess over his fantasy football team, I can now relate.  This year I have a team of my own and I understand why he gets so excited for football season.  Granted, I imagine my new-found joy is helped by my Beginner’s Luck as I am in 2nd place in our league.  Winning always makes it more fun, right?  This week I even beat my friend Giuliana who – until now – had been undefeated.  Randy isn’t faring quite as well.  Although he got a win this week, his manhood was seriously bruised after losing to his wife (that would be me), mom, and sister in three consecutive weeks.  Ouch.

I don’t think this means that I am on my way to a new career in photography but Schmap used one of my pictures for their Midtown Atlanta section.  I had never heard of schmap before (am I in the dark?) and I am not getting any kickbacks for allowing them to use it, but it is still kind of cool that they found and selected my photo from Flickr.  On the other hand, looking at some of the other pictures that were selected for Midtown, I am not sure that this is such an honor.

Halloween on 2nd Ave Part II November 1, 2007

I am not sure if we got fewer TTers, if we were stingier from the get-go (remembering last years near candy wipe out), or if I just got a lot more candy for the money this year but we have a butt-load of left overs.  There weren’t any late night knockers but the shameless, street-clothed adults returned in droves.  My personal favorite was the costumeless 40-something who was using a rumpled brown bag, thoughtfully re-cycled after covering a 40 oz of malt liquor, to collect loot.  Don’t you wish you had been here?  Sounds like Mingaling had a similar experience a few streets over.

Kurt, Chrissy, Maddy & Lisa joined us for the festivities.  Maddy is almost 2 months and was absolutely adorable in her pumpkin costume.  Jake was a big hit with the trick or treaters, standing in the doorway as we doled out the candy.  We had a pot luck dinner with Chrissy making lasagna, Lisa bringing salad, and we provided the apps, bread, drinks & dessert.  I stopped at the Dekalb Farmers Market on my way home and picked up a bunch of mini pies & pastries for dessert.  They were all very tasty and quite a bargain at $7.00 for the bunch.  We had pumpkin, sweet potato, banana creme, and pecan mini pies, a slice of carrot cake, and one mega cream cheese brownie.  By cutting them all into pieces, we all got to sample our favorites.  I highly recommend this approach next time you find yourself on dessert duty.
